The Fowleri Tang (Acanthurus fowleri) is also known as the Blackspine Surgeonfish and Horse Shoe Surgeonfish. It is known to occur in the waters of Papua New Guinea, Indo-Pacific and the Philippines. This is one of the more beautiful Surgeonfish / Tangs in the hobby.
They are brownish yellow in body color and the head is blue, just behind the eyes there is a blue curve shaped marking that is a main characteristic/identifier of this species. They have a large black mark at the base of the caudal peduncle. Yellow finnage, and white ring on the tail that makes this Tang a must have in any show tank.
In its natural habitat, the Fowleri Tang is generally found in clear seaward facing reefs and steep drop-offs. The Fowleri Tang demands a larger more established aquarium with large amounts of live rock providing both plenty of swimming room and territorial area with places to hide and graze along the live rock face.
