The Painted Sweetlips (Diagramma pictum) is also known as Slate Sweetlips. As juveniles, they have a dark brown body color with gold markings, offset with a number of dark bands running the length of their body. As adults, they lose most of their color and take on a pale grey-blue coloring, with small dark splotches all over their body. While the tail is speckled with small olive-yellow spots.The Painted Sweetlips is known to frequent the sandy bottom areas of reefs around rock outcrops, wreckage debris and can occasionally be found in estuaries.
