The Red Pacu is one of the few iconic silver freshwater species that can be kept successfully in an aquarium. These vegetarian look alike relatives of the piranha are restless swimmers and easily spooked. Always keep at least two of these fish together in an aquarium as they need to school. They require a larger aquarium with suitable hiding places, which can be created using roots and rocks. Do not use live plants with the Red Pacu as they will be eaten. Plastic plants can be a good way to create more hiding places.
