The Yellow Belly Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) boasts a vivid electric blue body dressed with bold black markings and a distinctive yellow belly. It is just a color variation of the Pacific Blue Tang. The only difference between them is that it has a yellow belly and is collected from the Indian Ocean.
The Yellow Belly Blue Tang has a peaceful nature that suits almost any large community marine aquarium. Though peaceful towards most tank mates, the Yellow Belly Blue will become aggressive towards other fish of its own species.
The Yellow Belly Blue Tang is native to reefs throughout the Indian Ocean region & loves a good hiding location amongst live rock. However this active fish also loves to swim. So ample room to roam around your aquarium is essential for optimum health. To keep multiple Tang species it is best to introduce the entire lot at once to prevent territorial disputes.
Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae products. This will strengthen the Blue Tang's immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health.
